Leaf, flower

Drought tolerant and does well in poor soil.  Needs well-draining soil and should dry out between waterings. Can be invasive, so plant in a container to contain it. Prefers sunlight but tolerates partial shade.  Does well in a variety of soils but prefers loamy soil. Does not need to be fertilized as this may cause overgrowth. Water frequently but lightly for new plants, but once established only light weekly watering is needed.  Temperatures over 86 F can be troubling, so place in partially shaded area.  Prefers dry conditions.  Can be toxic to dogs, cats and horses but has a bitter taste that animals turn away from. Yarrow is a diaphoretic, astringent, tonic, stimulant and mild aromatic.  Can aid in gastric discomfort such as gloating gas, and diarrhea in teas and tinctures.  It can also help skin problems when infused in an oil. Used to aid colds and flu as a hot tea and helps with inflammation as a tea, tincture or in a salve
